The Local Area:
The River Tamar forms the border between Devon and Cornwall for much of its length. There are few bridges across the river, and Horsebridge is one of the oldest, being built in 1437.
The Tamar Valley winds between the granite uplands of Dartmoor and Bodmin moor and in places becomes narrow, with the river fast flowing. Elsewhere the flood plain widens out and is a mix of woodlands and farmland.
The Tamar Trail, which links many of the local heritage mining sites as well as providing peaceful walks along the river, crosses the Tamar at Horsebridge and runs past the front porch of the Royal Inn.
